SMART Testing for Dyslexia and Learning Disorders

When looking for an assessment of your student’s learning and developmental abilities, you will find that some test batteries last 6 hours or more.  Although that sounds impressive, long test batteries can result in invalid and unreliable results due to student fatigue.  A long battery of tests isn’t really necessary in order to confidently determine your student’s needs.  The difference is in testing smarter, not longer.

SMART Testing is…

STRATEGICALLY SPECIFIC

Dr. Davenport’s assessment is focused on strategically assessing and documenting your student’s specific strengths and needs.

MEANINGFUL

Dr. Davenport uses research-proven tools designed to measure the meaningful cognitive, developmental, and academic abilities associated with your student’s academic, social, and emotional needs.

APPROPRIATE

When designing your student’s unique 3 hour battery, Dr. Davenport considers his or her specific needs and age-appropriate testing materials to ensure validity of results.

RESULTS-ORIENTED

The assessment process is focused on documenting strengths and struggles in order to identify specific diagnoses and recommend age-appropriate remediation and accommodation.

TIME-SENSITIVE

The assessment process is completed in a timely manner so you can get the help your child, teen, or college student deserves sooner than later.

How Does SMART Testing Work?

  1. Parents complete an all-inclusive questionnaire specifically designed and proven to identify the goals of your student’s assessment.

  2. The family participates in a structured and thorough clinical interview aimed at defining a student’s unique developmental, learning, social, emotional and executive functioning strengths and needs before determining what needs to be assessed.

  3. Teachers are asked to compete a time-tested questionnaire that compares your student’s learning, behavioral, social, and emotional abilities to others his or her same age and gender.

  4. Your student participates in only three hours of testing specifically designed and focused on assessing the most important cognitive abilities, developmental skills, and learning concerns ensures validity of results. Dr. Davenport believes that any amount of testing over 3 hours results in less reliable results.

  5. Your feedback session is focused on addressing your student’s strengths and needs within the context of personal, parental, and educational resources. Dr. Davenport has over 20 years of experience providing strong and reliable advice in a caring and compassionate manner.

  6. An easily understood written report includes specific diagnoses along with practical and research-based recommendations for helping your student at school, at home, and in life.
