ADHD Evaluations

When a child, teen, a college student, or an adult is struggling with inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity, strong and reliable advice provided in a caring and compassionate manner is needed.  Dr. Davenport has over 25 years of experience providing this type of assistance.

Dr. Davenport’s assessment involves identifying specific strengths and needs, then making practical recommendations to improve areas of need while emphasizing his strengths.

This assessment is designed to identify or rule-out ADHD and other challenges that commonly mimic ADHD (anxiety, depression, and several other concerns) for all ages: children, teens, college students, and adults.

Clinical Interview

The assessment process involves a 2-hour structured and thorough clinical interview based on the diagnostic criteria outlined in the current diagnostic manual.  Dr. Davenport also identifies any associated executive functioning challenges (organization, time management, planning/prioritizing, task initiation, persistence, and working memory) and any commonly related learning problems (reading comprehension, written expression, and multiple-step math problem solving).

Questionnaires

To provide needed services, schools, universities, physicians, and other professionals require the results of standardized questionnaires in addition to the clinical interview.  Dr. Davenport utilizes the following objective instruments to document the severity of your concerns.

Preschool/Kindergarten

  • Parents of young children are asked to complete the Child Behavior Checklist appropriate for their age.

  • They are also provided the appropriate Teacher or Caregiver Report Form of the Child Behavior Checklist to be completed by preschool or kindergarten teachers.

School-Aged Children and Teens (Ages 6 to 18)

  • Parents are asked to complete the Child Behavior Checklist for Ages 6 – 18.

  • They are also provided Teacher Report Forms of the Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist to be completed by teachers.

Adults and College Students

  • Adults and college students are asked to complete the Achenbach Adult Self Report.

  • Parents of college students are asked to complete the Adult Behavior Checklist.

Ratings on each of these instruments are compared to ratings of other individuals of the same gender and age.

Results and Recommendations

During the second appointment, Dr. Davenport will detail the results of the evaluation, including the individual’s specific diagnosis.

He will provide educational information for the family and individual, as well as, recommendations for addressing all aspects of research-based multimodal management of ADHD symptoms including the development of strategies and accommodations to meet specific needs. Information about medication management is provided for the consideration of interested families and individuals.

Written Report

Within three weeks after the second appointment, a written report outlining the results, diagnoses, and recommendations is provided.  Detailed written suggestions are made to help the individual, family, educators, physicians, and other professionals better address and accommodate specific needs.
